The tour

Starting at the mountain station, on this tour you cross the glacier to the Gjaidalm and from there climb up to the Oberfeld. Between Niederem and Hohem Rumpler you go south-west to the Mitterstein chairlift valley station and back to the Hunerkogel. Attention, there are only a few pole markings, good sense of direction and GPS necessary. Beware of crevasses and sinkholes.

Attention: The lifts on the Dachstein Glacier are no longer in operation. Therefore, all altitude metres have to be mastered under your own power. GPS track has been adapted.

Turn-by-turn directions

Ascent and descent: follow Austria’s National Ski to the Gjaidalm. From there, ascent to Oberfeld - along the eastern slopes of the mountain range Taubenkogel - Niederer and Hoher Gjaidstein (pole marking) to the bottom station of the Mitterstein chairlift, and onwards to Hunerkogel. From Oberfeld on the Niederer and Hoher Rumpler, southwards to the Gjaidsteingrube (pit) and from there to the Mitterstein, the chairlift and the Hunerkogel (Dachstein Gondola Mountain Station). Beware of weather conditions, fog and poor visibility.
